Black Magic

This is a great carp fly for bright conditions and clear water. It seems to work best on the drag and drop, or if possible when presented ahead of a fish that is moving while feeding. Adjust the size of the eyes to suit your fishing. I'm sure it will work in other colours, but I only tie this in black. Infinite Squirmy Worm

This is a variation of a squirmy worm pattern I saw some time ago that I've been using for carp over the last several months with good success. The ability to replace the worm when it get's damaged, but keep the hook and dumbbell has been a real bonus. Barry' Carp Fly

Barry Reynolds' Carp fly is an absolute killer, I rate it most on rocky bottomed rivers and lakes where the carp are used to feeding on crayfish. You can also tie it smaller to imitate a dragonfly nymph in weedy shallows where it works to good effect. Escargot

I've always thought snails are pretty cool little creatures. Fish like them too, although I reckon they're an overlooked hatch. You rarely see articles about them in the magazines (despite some of them seemingly having an article on the "washing line" in every edition) I rarely see anyone talking about them online, and even less often do I hear someone saying they caught on a snail pattern. It's weird. Stillwaters the world over have snails in them and fish, not only trout, like eating them. They're slow moving, full of protein and minerals. They're probably tasty and abundant, especially in reservoirs where they can graze on the algae that grow on the dam wall. What's not to like? But for some reason very few people fish them. OK they're not an everyday "hatch", but lots of common imitations that people carry only get occasional use. Corixa, hoglouse or daddies aren't everyday flies either, but no-one looks at you askance when you

Paul Arden and Nick Moore discuss distance fly casting. Part 1.

Trying something a bit different. This is a Zoom conversation between Nick and Paul about distance casting and a whole lot besides. I hope you find it interesting. 😆

Carp Zonker

The Conker has been in my carp box for almost 15 years and is one of my favourite carp flies. It's versatile and can be tied big to represent a goby or crayfish for predatory fish, or scaled down to be more like a nymph. Carry them in different sizes, colours and weights to suit where you are fishing. It also makes a great bass or bonefish pattern. Woah Black Betty!

Jim Pankiewicz's Black Betty is a great, subtle carp fly that it is ideal for situations when you want something a bit slimmer but still with plenty of movement. The dumbbells and compact body allows it to sink quickly making it perfect for rivers, I generally prefer to tie them with bead chain for still waters. Have a look at Jim's blog for more on the pattern and other carp related stuff http://themrpblog.blogspot.com/search?q=black+betty To support the channel, get access to the monthly tying classes and enter the giveaways, head to https://www.patreon.com/flickingfeathers or https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/flickingfeathers and sign up.
